1) Robin Waterfield (2007). The Origins of Theatre in Ancient Greece and Beyond: From Ritual to Drama. Edited By Eric Csapo and Margaret C. Miller. The Heythrop Journal 48 (5), 791-792.
-I chose this article because it summary of information about a book on the origins of theatre. If I were to write a paper I think it would be important for me to get information as quickly as possible and this article would help with that. It relates to my topic because it talks about how theatre was inspired by Greek culture; therefore, linking the two. It is an opinion piece because it reviews a book.
2) Waters, Irene. Ancient Greek Tales For Today. Contemporary Review; June 2001, Vol.278 Issue 1625, p.356
-This article explains not only the origins but also the functions of drama. She tries to explain the mass appeal of theatre back then and why people still go and see it today. She stresses the fact that in ancient Greece theatre was mainly used for entertainment, though it was also used religiously and politically. She wrote this article after her experience at a live performance of the Trojan war so it is filled with her opinions. She does back up her conclusions with facts though.
3) Wilmer, Steve. Women In Greek Tragedy Today: A Reappraisal. Theatre Research International; July 2007, Volume 12 Issue 2, P. 106-118.
-Steve comments about a certain aspect of Greek culture that could be seen through theatre. I think it would be helpful for a paper because it would bring in another topic that I could gather information for and write about. He writes about women in this society. Greek plays were written by men and acted out by men in every role. I Think this explains the role that women played or didn’t play religiously in this culture.
